Celebrations! Celebrations mark our lives with good memory milestones, along the way.
Summer is such a wonderful time to connect with friends and family, to sit together with a cold one (whatever your “cold one” of choice may be), to float down the St. Joe River on an inner tube, or visit Bonneyville Mill County park for a hike and discover how grain has been ground there since 1837 (you can even take some milled grain home, to make pancakes!). You still have time to catch a free concert at McNaughton Park in Elkhart, presented by the Elkhart Municipal Band (8:00pm on Tuesdays, through August 9th). Maybe you prefer smoking some meat at home, and inviting the relatives over for brisket, and stimulating political discussion (okay, maybe not…)
A traditional Elkhart County celebration coming soon is the Elkhart County Fair.
This traditional fair is one of the largest in the country. It began in 1851, to celebrate agriculture and as an opportunity for farmers to get together and demonstrate farming and husbandry techniques and compete in a friendly manner. Events such as baseball games, sideshow performances, horse races, and a thrilling Midway soon drew in urban crowds, as well. 4-H participation today involves over 4,000 Elkhart County Youth, who display their projects and compete for fame among their peers.
- This year’s opening parade begins at 1:30 pm on Sunday, July 24th, in downtown Goshen, with the fair itself running from Friday, July 22nd, to Saturday, July 30th, from 8:00 am until 11:00 pm.
We proudly support the work of 4-H and the Elkhart County Fair. You will no doubt find many Troyer Products associates next week out petting the goats, hanging out at the Dairy Bar or in the draft horse barn, or enjoying the band Kansas (featured this year), the rodeo, or the tractor pull. Or perhaps we’ll join you in searching out whatever new exotic fair food is hot this year… deep-fried-chocolate-
