A Business History Worth Celebrating
Sometime in 1974, Sam Troyer began making fabric-covered headboards with custom-covered buttons in his rural Elkhart County garage. These value-priced headboards were eagerly purchased by the burgeoning mobile home industry in the area. Soon local van conversion companies began to call, and Sam furnished fabric headliners and other fabric-covered surfaces for these custom conversions. Troyer Products was incorporated in 1976, and Sam soon moved the business to its first stand-alone building on C.R. 22 at the edge of Goshen.
Troyer Products added VELCRO® Brand Hook and Loop products to its production and distribution, as well as narrow fabrics (elastics, binding tapes, welt cord), fasteners, and other furniture and upholstery materials. At that time, TP could be described as a furniture supplier without the “three Fs:” fabric, frames, foam. Troyer Products added sewing to its list of competencies, at this time focusing primarily on tie-down straps used inside RVs.
In 1986, Troyer Products was sold, and the second owner added curtain tape with glides, drapery systems, and PVC extrusions to the list of offerings. The Lif-Table Kit® was an innovation TP purchased, and many iterations of this collapsible table system were designed for various needs. The company moved to a purpose-built space on the outskirts of Bristol in the early ‘90s.
Troyer Product’s third owner took over in 2005, and the business moved to its current location on 3310 Magnum Drive in Elkhart, Indiana. Custom cargo nets, bags, and mud flaps were added to the lineup. Troyer began investing in quality fabric cutting and sewing equipment and consequently, ramped up capabilities and skill in the field. Production currently includes more complex sewing such as window covers, tents, and screen rooms. Custom straps as solutions to storage and transport continue to be a solid portion of the business; as many as 3,000 straps are produced here weekly. Cycle counting in local RV factories has been a service Troyer Products provides to keep an eye on supplies, making sure production is not slowed or stopped by unexpected outages. The business is a valued VELCRO® Distributor to the Midwest, and our vast warehouse fulfills hundreds of orders each week.
