Who invented the hook and loop fastener?
The VELCRO® brand woven hook and loop fastener is where it all began. In the early 1940’s, Swiss inventor George de Mestral went on a walk with his dog. Upon his return home, he noticed that his pants and his dog’s fur were covered with cockleburs. His inventor’s curiosity led him to study the burrs under a microscope, where he discovered their natural hook-like shape. This was to become the basis for a unique, two-sided fastener - one side with stiff “hooks” like the burrs and the other side with the soft “loops” like the fabric of his pants. The result was VELCRO® Brand woven hook and loop fasteners, named for the French words “velour” and “crochet.”
How do I select the correct hook and loop for my application?

They will either immediately recommend several combinations that my meet your applications needs or inquire with our engineering staff of possible solutions.

What is Hook and Loop Tape?
The Hook side is the rough or hard side, it is often referred to the "male", "bristly" or "hard" side; while the Loop side is the soft or fuzzy side and often referred to as the "female", "plush", or "pile" side.
Although there are many types of both hook & loop tape(s), the end use of the product will help determine which product would be best for your application.

I need a specific size of hook and loop. Can Troyer help me?
Troyer Products will be happy to cut any width material to you exact measurements (call us about size).
If the Hook and Loop materials are to be cut tot he same size, we can cut and mate the two together to assist in decreasing assembly time.
The yield for cut pieces is equivalent to a full roll of material (25 yards = 900 inches) divide by the length you specify (for standard straight cut pieces only).
How do I remove the adhesive residue?
We recommend a citrus-based cleaner. There are several commercially available, as well as a product called Goo Gone® from Magic American Corporation of Cleveland, OH. For thick adhesive, you may need some elbow grease to get the residue off. We advise that you spot-test any remover before using and always clean off the surface after using any cleaner.
My hook is clogged up with little pieces of stuff. How do I clean it?
Cleaning debris out of the hooks is similar to cleaning hairbrushes – and using a stiff brush or another piece of hook are the best methods. It can take some effort – after all, the hooks in the tape are made to grab! The optimal solution is prevention: the hook portion should be covered at all times, so it does not grab onto anything it should not – like a blanket or hair. Always engage the hook and loop before washing to prevent the hook from picking up lint.
